Thai Yoga Massage Certification

Thai Yoga massage certification starts with a single weekend: the SomaVeda® Level 1 Fundamentals class — two days, hands-on, 18 NCBTMB-approved CE hours, no license or experience required — and continues, if you want it, to the 165-hour Certified Thai Yoga Practitioner (CTP1) credential and beyond. Taught in person in Brooksville, Florida, in the living lineage of Grand Master Ajahn Dr. Anthony B. James. No trip to Thailand required.

The certification path, honestly explained

1

Level 1 — Fundamentals of SomaVeda® Thai Yoga

One weekend. 18 NCBTMB CE hours. You learn the theory, the energy anatomy (sen lines, chakras, wind gates), and a complete 19-asana partner flow — and you leave able to give a full one-hour session. No license or experience required. This is where every practitioner in the lineage began.

Practice under the NAIC umbrella

Tuition includes an NAIC Authorized Participant Membership. Under the Native American Indigenous Church's legal framework, members may legally practice what they learn in all 50 states — without a massage license. Many students stop here and simply practice on family, friends, or private clients.

CTP1 — Certified Thai Yoga Practitioner (165 hours)

The professional credential: a 13-day residential intensive built on the Level 1 + Level 2 hands-on core, plus Bio-Tap®/EFT skills, Thai medical theory (online lectures), and clinical protocols. Registration is handled directly by Grand Master Ajahn Dr. Anthony B. James and the Thai Yoga Center.

Beyond: teacher & Ayurveda credentials

CTP1 opens the higher programs across the lineage — the SomaVeda® Teacher Certificate, Ayurveda lifestyle and health-counselor credentials, advanced Nuad Boran (Northern style), and college degree pathways through the SomaVeda College of Natural Medicine.

For licensed massage therapists: real CE, real skill

The NAIC is an NCBTMB Massage Board Approved Provider, and the Level 1 weekend carries 18 board-approved CE hours — renewal hours that also hand you a new modality your clients can't get elsewhere in the county, done from the mat instead of grinding down your thumbs. Full details in our CE credits guide for LMTs.

Certification questions, straight answers

Do I need a massage license to get certified?
No. The classes are open to everyone — complete beginners, yoga teachers, nurses, caregivers, and licensed massage therapists all train side by side. Through the NAIC membership included with tuition, members may legally practice what they learn in all 50 states.
Are the CE hours real, board-approved hours?
Yes. The Native American Indigenous Church (NAIC) is an NCBTMB Massage Board Approved Provider. Completing the Level 1 Fundamentals weekend earns 18 NCBTMB-approved continuing-education hours, applicable toward Licensed Massage Therapist renewal.
How long does certification take?
Level 1 is one weekend — two full days, 18 contact hours. The full CTP1 practitioner credential is 165 hours, anchored by a 13-day residential intensive. How far you go depends on what you want: a life skill, CE hours, or a professional practice.
What does it cost?
Level 1 Fundamentals is $450 ($350 for returning students, with instructor permission). The course manual is separate ($39.95). The CTP1 practitioner certification is $5,995 plus materials. There is no payment online — you reserve, Tyler calls to confirm, and the office invoices you.
Do I have to travel to Thailand?
No. This is the point of the program: authentic, lineage-held Thai Yoga training — brought to the U.S. by Dr. Anthony B. James from the Old Medicine Hospital tradition of Chiang Mai — taught in Brooksville, Florida. Compare your options on our training in the USA page.
Is certification online or in person?
The hands-on levels are in person — this is bodywork; your hands have to learn it on real bodies. The Thai medical theory component of the CTP1 program is delivered as online video lectures. Beware of fully online "Thai massage certifications": the touch cannot be learned from a screen.

Certified in a real lineage

SomaVeda® Thai Yoga descends through Grand Master Ajahn Dr. Anthony B. James from the Old Medicine Hospital tradition of Chiang Mai. Khru Tyler Singleton — Certified Practitioner (2024), Certified Teacher (2025) — teaches the Brooksville classes and apprentices directly under Dr. James.
