Your First In-Home Session: What Actually Happens

What the first visit with a mobile SomaVeda Thai Yoga practitioner looks like, from the knock on the door to the mat: Assessment, Discovery, hands-on balancing, and what it costs.

The dog is allowed to stay. I mention that first because somebody asks at nearly every first visit, usually while holding the dog back with one leg. Pets are fine. Kids are fine. I have worked entire sessions while a toddler narrated from the couch. Your house does not need to be clean, quiet, or ready. It needs about seven feet by five feet of floor.

Here is the whole first visit, start to finish, so none of it is a mystery.

The knock and the ten-minute setup

I pull up with a folded floor mat and a bag of linens, washed fresh for your visit, every visit. No table, no oil. I work across Spring Hill, Brooksville, Weeki Wachee, Lutz, Land O’Lakes, Odessa, Wesley Chapel, and North Tampa, and travel is already included within about 25 miles of Brooksville. There is no studio address because the studio comes to you.

Setup takes ten minutes. The living room floor is the usual spot. While I lay things out, you can finish your coffee.

One honest note up front, since people ask: we do not provide massage or massage therapy, and we are not licensed massage therapists. What I practice is SomaVeda® Thai Yoga, traditional Thai bodywork in the lineage of the Old Medicine Hospital tradition of Chiang Mai, and you stay fully clothed the entire time. Different thing, different job.

I also know the real question behind a lot of first bookings is not about Thai Yoga at all. It is about letting a stranger into the house. Fair. So, plainly: fresh linens every time, clothes on the whole time, and I tell you what I am about to do before I do it. One word from you changes or stops anything.

The Assessment and Discovery

Before anyone gets on the mat, we sit and talk. I ask how you sleep, how you move through a normal day, where you feel worn down, where the stiffness lives. Then I watch how you actually move. This is the Assessment and Discovery, and it is most of the reason the first visit exists.

Here is the pattern I see constantly. Almost everyone books already certain what the problem is. The right shoulder. The lower back after an afternoon of yard work. Sometimes they are right. More often, once I can see the whole body in motion, we find something underneath that story, or something different altogether. The shoulder that got me invited over turns out to be doing extra work for a hip nobody was thinking about.

That is why I will not sell you a plan over the phone, and why I am suspicious of anyone who will. Nothing can be tailored to a body that has not been assessed in person. And if anything medical comes up in the conversation, that goes to your physician. I am clear about that line and I stay on my side of it.

The hands-on balancing

Then you get on the mat, dressed as you are, ideally in something loose you could stretch in. The work is assisted yoga stretching, rhythmic compression, and sustained pressure along the sen lines, the traditional Thai map of the body’s pathways. I wrote more about that map in this post if you want the background.

Nothing about it is hurried. I move around you on the mat, working with hands and forearms, checking in as we go.

For the research-minded: a systematic review of clinical trials on traditional Thai massage, which is the name researchers use for this family of work, found it was associated with reduced pain, greater flexibility, and lower perceived muscle tension. Worth a read if you like sources, and I do.

What it costs, with no surprises at the door

The first visit is $90 all-in. That covers the Assessment, the Discovery conversation, the general hands-on balancing, and your $14.95 annual membership in the Native American Indigenous Church, which is how all of our services are offered: ministry religious therapeutics, for members. Membership is per person, never per household, and you can join ahead of time if you like.

After the first visit, we talk about what makes sense for you. For some people that is an occasional single 60-minute session at $135. For others, the assessment points toward the 7-Session SomaVeda® Protocol at $787.50, which works out to $112.50 a session, spaced one to three visits a week. Veterans and first responders get 30% off everything. The full menu lives on the pricing page.

No pressure either way. The assessment tells us what it tells us.

Before I ring the bell

Wear something loose. Eat light that day. Skip heavy lotion, since the work happens through clothing. Leave the dog, the kids, and the laundry exactly where they are; the household can keep being a household around us.

If you are within about 25 miles of Brooksville, pick a time that works and I will bring the mat.
